Irish Elk Sculpture

Megaloceros giganteus.

In fact it wasn't an elk or exclusively Irish at all I believe it was more closely related to the Fallow Deer. Their antlers measured up to 12ft across, and they stood up to 7ft at the shoulder.
This guy on the other hand is just 8.5" from ground to horn, and 7" from tail to ear (not including horn) His horns are 6.5" wide.

I'd have liked to make his horns a little bigger but, uhh, if you've ever tried to make antlers like this then maybe you'll understand why not XD

He's sculpted in polymer clays over wire and foil armature. His eyes are glass with a deer eye design BEHIND the glass so they're more realistic. He's painted in pastels and acrylic and finished off with a few different varnishes and enamels.

He was a challenge, but I'm very proud of the result. Anatomical flaws notwithstanding, he's one of my best sculptures.
